Affordable Care Act / ACA Plans
The annual Open Enrollment Period for ACA Plans runs from November 1 to December 15, but if your situation has changed—for example, you got married, had a baby, or lost your health insurance—you might be qualified for a "Special Enrollment Period" that enables you to sign up for health insurance outside of the regular Open Enrollment Period.
- Comprehensive medical coverage
- No Pre-existing Limitations
- Ages: 18-64
- Premium Tax Credits: Depending on your family size and income level, you may qualify for subsidies to reduce the cost of the monthly insurance premiums, even to $0 per month in some cases.
Integrated Healthcare Association Options
IHA Healthcare is a new plan option that, if accepted, offers a great healthcare program with everything an ACA plan has to offer, but you can utilize it throughout all 50 States. It is available for purchase in all states besides Washington. It’s a comprehensive health insurance plan specifically designed for the self-employed.
- Must be self-employed/1099 to qualify
- Plans available for individuals and families
- Ages: 18-64
- Underwriting required for approval
- Many of the same components of traditional health insurance, i.e. "first day coverage", no pre-exisiting conditions, national network, and more.
Medical Cost Sharing - (Individual & Group Health Programs)
Healthy people who want a less expensive choice but don't want to use "hospital indemnity," "short term medical," or other, less complete solutions tend to pick these non-profit, non-insurance programs.
There is a 3-year pre-existing limitation on these programs, but the benefit for qualified invoices is unlimited. MCS programs have a proven track record of paying qualified bills and providing rates that are consistent and reasonable. These options are typically 50 - 70% less expensive than an Affordable Care Act plan.
Short Term Medical Plans
A less expensive option to provide up to 11 months (length will vary by state) of coverage for healthy individuals and families is through a short-term medical (STM) plan . While less thorough STM policies are assured to be issued, more thorough plans will ask you to provide some medical information. After submitting your application and payment, you can choose to start your coverage as soon as the next day.
Benefits may include doctor visits and certain preventative care, emergency room and ambulance coverage, urgent care benefits, and more, depending on the carrier and plan chosen.
